IS CANVA STEPPING OVER ADOBE?
Just like Dos Ojos, Canva started with the idea of friends. On January 1, 2013, Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht, and Cameron Adams founded Canva in Australia, and has grown exponentially since then. The initial idea was to create a platform to do photo albums to print, when people started using it as a creative tool for presentations or other documents the options became infinite. Today Canva is used not only by creatives but by students, teachers, companies and for personal use.
Canva is a graphic design tool that has experienced exponential growth since its launch in 2013. The Australian-based company has quickly become a leading platform for non-designers to create professional-looking designs for various purposes, including social media posts, presentations, and print materials.
One of the reasons for Canva's success is its user-friendly interface, which allows anyone to create designs without any prior design experience. Canva offers a vast library of templates, images, and fonts, making it easy for users to create designs that look polished and professional. Additionally, Canva's drag-and-drop feature makes designing an effortless task, as users can easily add, resize, and move elements around the canvas.
Another factor contributing to Canva's growth is its adaptability to the changing needs of its users. Over the years, the platform has evolved to offer new features and functionalities that cater to various types of users, including individuals, small business owners, and large enterprises. For example, Canva now offers a range of team collaboration tools, which enable multiple users to work on the same design simultaneously, making it easier for teams to collaborate remotely.
Canva's growth is also fueled by its continuous innovation and commitment to providing a seamless user experience. The company has expanded its offerings by introducing new products such as Canva Pro and Canva for Education, which provide additional features and functionalities for professionals and educators. Canva has also partnered with various companies, such as Dropbox and HubSpot, to integrate its platform into their products, making it easier for their users to create designs.
Finally, Canva's success can be attributed to its focus on building a community of users. The company has invested heavily in creating a vibrant online community of designers, marketers, and business owners, who share tips, insights, and best practices for using the platform. Canva's blog, social media channels, and user forums provide a platform for users to connect, share their work, and get feedback from peers.
Canva gathers everything you need in one place, you don't have to change from app to app to create a design, it even has a tool to change the dimensions of your art so you can use it on different platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. As well it carries a photo, videos, graphics, audio, and other banks of media for you to use, and most importantly it is user-friendly.
It has come a long way and keeps improving, just as AI is a tool and it makes work easier, in fact, it uses AI technology. Its newest improvements contain “Magic design” it creates different and various options of design from a photo or video you ask for, grids, layouts, gradients, and AI photo creation, which creates an image with the specifications that you give it by text, “magic edit where an AI helps you change elements inside the photo with a short line of information, or use the magic eraser tool to delete objects from the photo without using photoshop. Animations are easy to use to add to any of your designs, “Draw your ideas” to use it as if it was a notebook, the options are infinite, and “magic write” where you give it instructions of what you want and how you want it and it will write it for you, also a “magic presentation” tool that helps you to create a presentation layout with the information and images you ask. For videos or designs containing audio, they have a new feature called “beat-sync” so your design goes in rhythm with the music you choose. If you work with your team, you can all come together to edit something and go around it without the need of saving and sending the file, it autosaves, updates, and shares without even asking, and you can see the history of the edition and manage it from different computers. For branding or brand purposes, you can create brand kits so you can have the icons, logos, images, fonts, and everything you need in one place
Sincerely a few months ago I was criticizing Canva, “If you use it your probably not a designer” today it might even be stepping on adobes heels, and I believe it will continue to improve. Such as us designers should continue to learn how to use these new platforms, apps, and AI and incorporate them into our daily working process because they are tools for us to be more efficient, not to take our work.
